Food safety tips

Food borne illness is relatively common within our community and most people within their lifetime are likely to experience one or more bouts of some form of food poisoning. The most frequent symptoms usually exhibited are diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach sometimes with fever and cramps. These symptoms can vary from mild to severe and in extreme cases be life threatening. It is not uncommon for symptoms to be confused with other illnesses. The onset of any diarrhoea in combination with fever and cramps warrants medical consultation. Vomiting symptoms in isolation are more difficult to diagnose. Not all vomiting is associated with food poisoning and there can be multiple causes.

Most food poisoning is preventable and we have presented in this section many useful food safety tips to help prevent foodborne illnesses. If you are experiencing or have experienced some of the symptoms described above we have recommended action plans and additional links to assist you.
